Class 1A/2A girls basketball regional roundup: Tremont, Olympia win on snowy opening night

Vanessa Ehnle scored her game-high 19 points in the first three quarters as Tremont opened its own Class 2A girls basketball regional with a 34-21 victory over Deer Creek-Mackinaw on a snowy Monday night across central Illinois.

While the four teams at Tremont took the court, seven postseason games involving Journal Star-area teams were pushed to Tuesday.

The Turks, seeded sixth in its sub-sectional, allowed only three field goals in the second half as it advanced to face No. 3 Midwest Central in a semifinal scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Jess Carithers scored 14 to lead Dee-Mack.

Olympia showed its balance in the opener here, advancing past Peoria Christian, 43-30. Lauren Turners and Colby Burt scored 11 each for the No. 7 Spartans, who advance to face No. 2 El Paso-Gridley in a game scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Keseanna Watson scored 20 to lead PCS.

Elsewhere: Raquel Rawlins and Camila Garcia scored 11 each to lead 10th-seeded Beardstown to a 38-24 win over No. 11 Rushvile-Industry. The Tigers advance to face top-seeded Eureka at 6 p.m. Tuesday ... The game here between No. 5 Havana and No. 12 Peoria Heights was postponed.

Class 1A

AT GLASFORD: No. 8 seed South Fulton used its depth to advance past No. 10 North Fulton, 53-38, and into the semifinals.

Gabi Kreps scored 13, Madison Coulter 11 and Amanda Parker 10 for South Fulton, which is scheduled to meet host Illini Bluffs at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Lexi Hanlin scored 19 to lead North Fulton.

AT VARNA: No. 7 seeded host Midland beat No. 9 Roanoke-Benson in a quarterfinal, 47-37. The Timberwolves advance to face top-seeded Princeville in a semifinal 6 p.m. Tuesday.
