Mumbai: The opposition party corporator of Congress along with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Ravi Raja and Rakhi Jadhav has written a letter to the Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshvar to call a special meeting only to have a detailed discussion on rooftops restaurant policy.

When the policy had come in the January agenda of the civic corporation meeting which consist 227 corporators from all parties, the Additional Municipal Commissioner withdrawn the policy stating that its already been passed by the Civic Commissioner Ajoy Mehta under his special power. While the opponents have now raised an objection asking why was a rejected policy given a nod.

Ravi Raja the Leader of Opposition(LOP) in the BMC said, “When the rooftop policy was tabled in the improvements committee earlier, it was rejected. The policy was then brought before the house for an approval however before there could be any discussion over it, the same was sanctioned by the civic commissioner Mehta under his special power. Therefore we want corporators to discuss the policy and only then want the same to be implemented.”

In February 2015, the BJP led civic improvements committee voted against the rooftop restaurants policy with the party terming it as being ‘against our culture’. The policy was then in May 2015 sent before the BMC house of corporators who had to take a call on the same. However, it was postponed and since then as no decision was held over the policy, in November last year.
