Acclaimed Finnish film picked up and Berlin-bound

The global sales of Antti-Jussi Annila’s critically acclaimed ‘The Eternal Road’ have been acquired by Stockholm’s Eyewell, which is taking the film to the Berlin Film Festival.
The Eternal Road (Ikitie) was recently nominated for a record 13 Jussi Awards, Finland’s Oscars, and was part of the Finland 100 centenary independence celebrations in 2017.
Variety broke the news on Eyewell’s acquisition, after Eyewell’s managing director Michael Werner made the announcement at the Göteborg Film Festival.
“The Eternal Road” is one of four new films which Eyewell will introduce to buyers at this month’s Berlin International Film Festival,” Werner revealed in Gothenburg.
Based on true events, the film is an adaption of Antti Tuuri’s best-selling novel from 2011. It follows Finn Jussi Ketola’s escape from the Great Depression in the US to Finland, only to be abducted upon return to his home country and forced to walk the so-called ‘Eternal Road’ to the Soviet Union.
The Eternal Road stars Tommi Korpela (The Other Side of Hope) and Babett Knudsen (Borgen) and is produced by Ilkka Matila for MRP Matila Röhr Productions.
