WORCESTER - Two men suffered serious injuries when an SUV they were in hit a parked car on Southbridge Street and then struck the side of a nearby business Saturday.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer the men were in was headed south on Southbridge Street about 3:15 a.m. when it veered off the road and struck a 2003 Audi. The Audi ended up in the northbound lane of the road. The SUV then struck the Safelite Auto Glass building at 515 Southbridge St., police said. Both men were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were in serious condition with head and chest trauma, police said.
The SUV punched a large hole in the Safelite building and knocked down an aluminum streetlight pole, which partially blocked Southbridge Street. City code inspectors investigating the accident determined that the damaged building was structurally unsafe. Both vehicles involved sustained extensive damage and were towed.
