Heroic passers-by raced to save woman
Heroic passers-by raced to save a woman in her 60s who was hit by a bus in Newcastle city centre on Monday.

The incident, which happened at around 12.20pm, involved a Stagecoach bus turning left from New Bridge Street on to John Street.
Northumbria Police confirmed she sustained “potentially life-threatening injuries”.
Witnesses report the woman was bleeding heavily from the head but quick-thinking members of the public responded to give her a fighting chance at recovery.
A doctor who happened to be close by rushed to give CPR to the injured pedestrian and was assisted by another member of the public, who spoke to ChroniceLive.
The woman, who did not want to be identified, said:
“We had just turned the corner and the crossed the road when my boyfriend heard a bang.
“There was a lady lying in the road and somebody was already calling an ambulance when we saw what had happened.
“A man who was a trained doctor was luckily close by and started doing mouth to mouth on the lady.
“I had some first aid training a few years ago and offered to help him by doing chest compressions.
“She was blue and unconscious but her pulse and colour started to come back and by the time the ambulance arrived she had started to come round.”
