The marriagespree by a 30-year-old man, who had wedded five women, came to an end with his arrest by Katpadi All Women Police on Monday based on a complaint from the parents of a teenaged girl from Viruthampattu.

The fraudulent activities of the man identified as Babu alias Kalai (30), a resident of Agaram village about 30 km from Vellore, came to light after the parents of a minor girl filed a missing complaint with the Viruthampattu police. During inquiries, police were shocked to find a similar case reported from a brick kiln in Kolar in Karnataka.
When Babu was informed that the police were on their way to Kolar to nab him, he returned to Vellore on Sunday night with the girl. Police apprehended him and during interrogation, he admitted to having married four other women apart from the wife, who had deserted him after knowing his activities.
Babu told the cops that he had married Parimala of Viruthampattu a year ago and befriended the girl, who was from the same locality. He promised to marry the girl and believing his words, she eloped with him to Kolar.
He also informed the police that he had married his relative at Odugathur and another woman at Madanur.
Police said Babu had deserted all the women exactly after a year of married life. Further inquiries are on.
