The Cabinet Division proposed the Road Transports and Highways Division to keep separate lanes for very important persons (VIPs) and the emergency services provider agencies at different roads for their smooth vehicular movement.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told about the proposal while briefing the media after Monday's Cabinet meeting held at Prime Minister's Office (PMO) with the PM in chair.
Replying to a query, Shafiul Alam said that there are many instances of having such separate lanes in many countries across the world. Following the instances, the proposal was given to the RTH Division. However, the authority has not yet responded positively to the proposal.
He said that it was not the directive of the Cabinet. It was the proposal of the Cabinet Division. They were requested to examine the proposal. Cars of VIPs in many countries are driven on wrong sides using separate lanes. We have also requested to examine such option.
Some the VIPs need to travel with the wrong ways, he said, adding that there are separate lanes in many countries. We are also considering introducing such separate lanes for the VIPs, he added.
He, however, said apart from rendering services to the VIPs most important matter is to give keep roads clear for emergency service providers like ambulance, fire service and police.
