Demanding withdrawal of suspension of four professors including the director of the higher education department, on charges of admission-related malpractice, National Students Union of India (NSUI) members continued their protest on third day at MB PG College campus on Monday. They also demanded that the State Government should order an inquiry in to the state higher education minister Dhan Singh Rawat’s academic degrees and PHD degree by an independent agency to check whether degrees are bonafide.
Moreover, former office bearers of students union under the banner of Chhatra Sangharsh Samiti also protested at Buddha Park at Tikonia in Haldwani and demanded that the suspended professors be reinstated.
They said that the decision on suspension of four professors including State higher education department director B C Malkani, MB Government PG College, Haldwani (Nainital) principal Jagdish Prasad, Government College, Devidhura (Champawat) principal SS Uniyal and MB Government GP College, Haldwani assistant principal NK Lohani on February 1 was unwise. Such a decision would not be accepted by the student fraternity. According to protesters, education has been adversely affected after suspension of four professors in the college. The state government should take proactive decision regarding the same.
Moreover, NSUI activists also conducted signature campaign against this decision at protest site on Monday. The protesters threatened to intensify their protests across the state unless such decision is withdrawn without delay.
NSUI members led by its leader Mimansa Arya assembled at college gate and shouted slogans against the state minster for higher education Dhan Singh Rawat and demanded withdrawal of the suspension order without delay. According to protesters, the minister had suspended four professors influenced by a biased attitude. NSUI members Vishal, Lal Singh Panwar, Ravindra Rawat and Neema Kothari among others were present in the protest.
