A Dorchester man flooded his cell at the Natick Police station on Sunday after he blocked the toilet with toilet paper, authorities said.
Police had arrested Wilfredo Robles Garcia, 31, after a traffic stop on Rte. 9 at 2:09 a.m., police spokeswoman Lt. Cara Rossi said Monday.
An officer on Rte. 9 saw a Honda Civic speeding. Using a LIDAR, which detects traffic speed, the officer saw the Civic was traveling at 85 mph in a 50-mph zone.
“The officer attempted to pull him over,” said Rossi. “He slowed down to 45 mph, but didn’t pull over immediately. The officer had to use his siren several times.”
Once stopped, officers saw that Garcia had an open Coors Light in his car. After Garcia failed several field sobriety tests, police arrested him.
“They brought him to the Natick Police station and he became increasingly less cooperative,” Rossi said.
Garcia refused to take a Breathalyzer test, meaning his license will be suspended for 180 days automatically.
Once Garcia was put in a cell, he took all the toilet paper and plugged the toilet and flooded the cell. That required the services of a professional cleaner, as well as someone to repair the toilet.
Police charged Garcia, of 60 McLellan St., with driving under the influence of liquor, driving without a license, unsafe driving, having an open container of alcohol while driving and malicious destruction of property. Police also cited him for speeding
Garcia was released without bail after his Natick District Court arraignment on Monday. He is due back in court on March 12 for a pretrial conference.
