Giant cabbage

Aubrey Fetchick is pictured with her 27.4 pound cabbage. The Chardon student was randomly selected by Ohio's Agriculture Department as the state winner in the National Bonnie Plants Cabbage Program. There were 7,874 participants in Ohio and more than 1 million third-graders in the 48 contiguous states who grew colossal cabbages in hopes of winning a $1,000 scholarship. Bonnie Plants provides the cabbage plants to third-grade classrooms whose teachers have signed up for the program online at ww.bonnieplants.com. Teachers from each third-grade class select the student who has grown the "best" cabbage, based on size and appearance and a winner is drawn in each state.
