Facing Lake Ashton, the Gators took 11 matches to win behind three victories by Mario Belanger and Daniel Rheault in four matches.

Tanglewood leads the mixed Best 8 Division while Del Webb, Highlands Ridge, Frostproof, Lake Ashton and Sun N Lake round out the standings.

Tanglewood will travel to Del Webb, Sun N Lake to Frostproof and Highlands Ridge to Lake Ashton this week.

With four of their top players missing, the Del Webb ladies’ pickleball team fell to Buttonwood Bay in South Central Florida Pickleball League play on Wednesday.

Del Webb did win six of the 16 matches played. Amy Cossa and Deb Frison finished unbeaten in four matches.

Highlands Ridge leads the Ladies Division while Del Webb, Tanglewood, Buttonwood Bay and Frostproof round out the standings. Del Webb hosts Tanglewood this week while Buttonwood heads to Frostproof. 

Registration still open for 2018 Polk Senior Games

Registration ends for the 26th annual Polk Senior Games on Friday.

The annual event, which is an Olympic-style competition held throughout the county, will run from Feb. 24 to March 12. There will be 38 different sports offered to senior men and women ages 50 and older.

Sports that will be offered include archery, bag toss, basketball shooting and 3 on 3, billiards, bocce, individual and team bowling, bridge, checkers, chess, cribbage, social, ballroom and square dancing, darts, euchre, walking, track and field events, fishing and fly casting, golf, putt and chip, horseshoes, lawn bowling, pepper, pickleball, punt, pass and kick, powerlifting, 5k road race, scrabble, senior smarts, shooting, shuffleboard, softball, Sudoku, swimming, table tennis and tennis.

Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in each age division within each event.

The cost is $10 initially and $3 for every event after up to $28 total. Fees increase for team sports as softball is $125, 3-on-3 basketball and square dancing are $50 and bowling is $36.
