Ex-Shanghai work safety chief faces prosecution

THE Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate Prosecutors’ Office announced yesterday that it has initiated a prosecution against Qi Jun, former director of the Shanghai Work Safety Bureau, on suspicion of accepting bribes and unauthorized partition of state-owned assets.

Last April, the city’s discipline inspection commission announced that Qi was under investigation for serious violations.

Last August, the procuratorate said Qi had been put under “coercive measures” on suspicion of accepting bribes and unauthorized partition of state-owned assets. Coercive measures may include summons by force, bail, residential surveillance, detention or arrest.
