Tom Brady hopes and expects to be back with the Patriots

MINNEAPOLIS – Considering the Patriots traded away a young promising quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo, it would seem obvious that Tom Brady plans to return next season. After the Patriots 41-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII, Brady said he hopes to back, but sounded less certain.

"You know, I certainly hope so. I certainly hope so," Brady said, who asked again. "I expect to be back. We’ll see."

“You know, I certainly hope so. I certainly hope so,” Brady said, who asked again. “I expect to be back. We’ll see.”

At 40-years-old Brady became the older player to win the NFL’s MVP award this season. In Super Bowl LII, he was fantastic. Brady set multiple Super Bowl record, including the most passing yards in a game with 505. He also set records with the most games played (eight), most passes in his Super Bowl career (235), passing yards in a career (2,576) and career touchdown passes (18).

When asked if he was at all contemplating retirement, Brady admitted he was upset with the result of the game, but reiterated that he expected to be back with the Patriots for the 2018 season. Brady currently has two years left on his current contract.

“It’s 15 minutes after the game ended. I’d like to process this a little bit,” Brady said. “I wouldn’t see why I wouldn’t be back.”

Bill Belichick, however, was less committal. When asked if he planned to return, he said he just wanted to “talk about this game.”
