New Delhi: Team India discard Yusuf Pathan has been picked in the Baroda squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His selection has come after he was given an NOC by the BCCI to play in the Dhaka Premier League. According to Indian Express, the all-rounder had decided to play in DPL as he did not make it to the Baroda squad earlier, for the domestic one-day tournament.

Yusuf, just a couple of weeks back had completed his five-month ban for a failed dope test. Due to the ban, Pathan had to miss majority of the Ranji season. The ban started on August 15, 2017 and ended on January 14, 2018.

Interestingly, Pathan was left of the Baroda squad for the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Given that he is out of match practice, Pathan wanted to get some match practice before getting started with the IPL. He will be playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“The selectors included his (Yusuf) name today in the Baroda squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy. But his inclusion was subject to him clearing his fitness test,” BCA joint secretary Snehal Parikh said.

Justifying the decision to pick Pathan despite not being in the probables list, Parikh said, “It’s a selection committee decision and I’m not going to reveal what happened inside the meeting.”
