Negotiations are on for wage revision, which is due from 1 April last year.
Kolkata: The West Bengal government has asked tea estate owners in the state to raise the daily wage of workers to Rs150 a day from Rs132.50 as an interim measure, pending final settlement over compensation. The revision is effective 1 January this year, the state government said in a notification.
Negotiations are on for wage revision, which is due from 1 April last year. Owners of estates in the Dooars region have started to pay the revised wage, but those in Darjeeling have not because of a cash crunch, said Arijit Raha, secretary general of lobby group Indian Tea Association.
