TWIN baby tamarins born at Drusillas Park last month have been named.
The zoo, near Alfriston, has been running a competition to see who could come up with the best solution for the little cotton-tops.
Nearly 500 people entered and names such as Jovie and Bowie, Bubble and Squeak, Cookie and Cream and Gin and Tonic were ranked among the best. But the eventual winning entry was Machu and Picchu, suggested by Kirsten White.
The competition brief left lots of scope for creativity, with the only guidelines being the names should pair well together and be gender neutral.
Head keeper Mark Kenward said: “We are thrilled with the new names Kirsten has picked out for our cotton-top twins. They are very fitting names as these little monkeys would be found in South America in the wild.
“Machu and Picchu were great choices and we are excited to tell the duo their new names.”
Cotton-top tamarins are one of the most endangered primates in South America, so the twins’ arrival has caused great excitement at the zoo.
