The Latest: Ex-Virginia Tech student facing murder trial

Lawyers for a former Virginia Tech student charged with killing a 13-year-old girl have issued a subpoena for his alleged accomplice to testify at his trial.

David Eisenhauer is charged in the 2016 stabbing death of Nicole Lovell of Blacksburg. Prosecutors say the girl climbed out her bedroom window to meet Eisenhauer in 2016 after the two communicated through an instant messaging app. Her body was found three days later.

Natalie Keepers, who was also a Virginia Tech student, is charged as an accessory before the fact. Prosecutors allege she helped Eisenhauer plan the killing.

Eisenhauer's lawyers have issued a subpoena for Keepers to testify at his trial, but her lawyers are fighting it. In court documents, they argue that "most, if not all" of any testimony Keepers gives for either the defense or prosecution would incriminate her.

Jailed since her arrest, Keepers is scheduled to face trial in September.

A judge has denied a request to suppress statements made to police by a former Virginia Tech student charged with killing a 13-year-old girl.

Judge Robert Turk denied the motion made by lawyers for David Eisenhauer on Monday as his trial got underway in a circuit court.

Eisenhauer is charged in the 2016 stabbing death of Nicole Lovell of Blacksburg.

Prosecutors say the girl climbed out her bedroom window to meet Eisenhauer in 2016 after the two communicated through an instant messaging app. Her body was found three days later.

Eisenhauer, of Columbia, Maryland, acknowledged meeting the girl outside her apartment, but told police he left when he saw how young she was.

A jury of eight women and six men — including two alternate jurors — was chosen to hear the case Monday. Opening statements are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Eisenhauer, of Columbia, Maryland, acknowledged meeting her, but told police he left when he saw how young she was.

His friend, Natalie Keepers, told police Eisenhauer killed her to keep her from exposing their inappropriate relationship.

Keepers is scheduled for trial in September on an accessory charge.
