Accidents

DANUBE — Icy roads may be to blame for a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Renville County that injured one of the drivers.

The accident was reported at 4:41 p.m. on U.S. Highway 212 just west of Danube.

According to the State Patrol a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Beth Marie Westerbur, 46, of Luverne, was going west on Highway 212 when a 2005 Toyota Tundra driven by Tshaj John Xiong, 23, of St. Paul, attempted to pass.

Xiong lost control of the vehicle, which sideswiped the Chevrolet and caused both vehicles to go off the road and into the westbound ditch.

The road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the crash, according to the State Patrol report.

Westerbur was taken to the RC Hospital in Olivia with non-life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in her vehicle, Carolyn Kaye Dejongh, 70, of Jasper was not injured.

Xiong and a passenger in his vehicle, Stephanie Yang, 23, of St. Paul, were not injured.

The Renville County Sheriff's Office and Renville Ambulance assisted at the scene.

LITCHFIELD — One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Litchfield.

The accident was reported at 4:44 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 and Davis Avenue South.

According to the State Patrol, the accident happened when a 2000 Cadillac Deville, driven by Eugene Rudolph, 77, of Sauk Rapids, was going west on Highway 12 and failed to stop for a red light.

The Cadillac collided with a 2003 Ford F150, driven by Steven Schweim, 41, of Litchfield, that was going south of Davis Avenue.

The drivers were not injured but a passenger in the Cadillac, Shirley Rudolph, 73, of Sauk Rapids, was taken to Meeker Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene of the crash.

Man falls after attempting to jump a "rocket bike" off his roof

WILLMAR — A 40-year-old man was injured Friday afternoon after attempting to jump a homemade rocket bike off of his house roof in the 800 block of Third Street Southeast.

According to a police report, the rocket bike consisted of a pair of skis, a bicycle frame and motorcycle exhaust pipe and was being fueled with Heet, an antifreeze product.

The unidentified man fell approximately 13 feet and apparently hit a fence in the yard during the fall.

When rescue personnel arrived, he was on his back on a sled, pushing himself around on the driveway with his feet. He was reportedly swearing and yelling about the pain, according to the report.

Burglary

WILLMAR — An apartment in the 800 block of 30th Avenue Northwest was burglarized over the weekend.

A resident told police at 10:40 p.m. Saturday that they had returned after being gone for the night to find the home broken into and ransacked.

The police report indicates there was a forced entry to the residence and that most drawers, cupboards and closets had been opened up and gone through.

Vandalism

WILLMAR — Police took a report at 12:55 p.m. Sunday of an attempted break-in of a truck that was parked at a hotel in the 2100 block of Highway 12 East.
