VALPARAISO — A Valparaiso man died Thursday after being crushed underneath his vehicle while doing repairs.

The Valparaiso Police Department, Valparaiso Volunteer Fire Department and Okaloosa EMS responded to a call at Southview Avenue about a man being pinned underneath a vehicle.

The victim, John Newberry, had been doing repairs on a vehicle when it apparently came off its supports, causing the vehicle to land on him, according to a press release issued today from the Valparaiso Police Department.

The vehicle was lifted off Newberry, and he was treated by Okaloosa County Emergency Services. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, the press release said.
