The government has ordered measures against 72 school teachers in Dhaka for making money through private coaching centres for decades.

The move comes after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) recommended transferring 522 teachers of 24 schools in the capital saying they have stayed put in the same institutions for years in peach of the guidelines.

On Sunday, the education ministry ordered authorities of Ideal School & College, Motijheel Model School & College, Viqarunnisa Noon School & College and RAJUK Uttara Model School & College to serve the teachers with show-cause notices.

The letter by the ministry’s Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) says the teachers have to respond within 10 days.

It also details the measures, in line with the regulations, that can be taken if the explanations fail to satisfy authorities.

On January 30, the DSHE transferred 25 teachers of five public schools in Dhaka following the ACC’s recommendations.

Referencing the ACC’s investigations, the orders sent to schools on Sunday said the anti-graft agency had forwarded lists of 72 teachers of the four schools to the Cabinet Division and recommended actions.

It said the government can take measures ranging from dissolving the school’s managing body to cancelling registrations if the authorities fail to take action against the teachers.
