ALLAHABAD: A group of students, belonging to Democratic Student Association (DSO), staged protest at the union hall of the Allahabad University, on Monday. The protesters were agitating over the statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi wherein he has said that selling 'pokada' is also an employment.
According to Sunil Yadav, district convener of the organisation, the students of the university or for that matter, those pursuing studies at various institutions, have achieved higher education not to sell pakoda. "It is the moral responsibility of the present government to provide employment to the youths who are doing postgraduate and PhD from the hard earned money of their parents", said Yadav. But now the PM is asking us to sell pakoda, he added.
The protesters were of the opinion that the present government is steadily decreasing the allocation for the education sector. "During UPA rule, the allocation was around 7% of the total which has come down to around 2%, which results is overall decline in the education system," said Yadav.
The government should see to it that proper funding is allocated to the educational institution and especially for the higher education. The government should also ensure that the universities should have the atmosphere of academics where the administration is to help improve the academic atmosphere, AU being the perfect example wherein the academics has taken a back seat over the years, they added.
