AMMAN —AlGhad— The farmers protesting in front of Parliament for the seventh day in a row, Monday, confirmed to AlGhad that their stand-in is indeed on going and that rumours of suspending the protest are false, present representatives of the Farmers Associations said. Deputy Prime Minister Mamdouh Abbadi said yesterday, Sunday, that he personally contacted the Chairman of the Farming and Irrigation Committee Khaled Hyari.
Based on their phonecall, Abbadi claimed, the Committee agreed to suspend the protest.
Still, the Association of farmers confirmed that the protest will not be suspended until their demand to revoke the 10 per cent tax increase on agricultural produce.
Meanwhile, Abbadi said a meeting will be scheduled between the currently absent Prime Minister, Dr Hani Mulqi, and representatives of the agricultural sector.
