Nevis boys run past Laporte, edge PR-B

Walker-Hackensack-Akeley defeated the Tigers 59-50 in a conference game Friday night at the Tiger Arena before Nevis rebounded with a 68-47 win over Houston Saturday afternoon at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

Nevis is now 8-2 in the conference and 16-3 overall.

Tigers run by Laporte

Four players hit double figures as the Tigers took control from the start to defeat Laporte for the second time this season.

Tom Wormley's 21 points and six rebounds, Jack Landquist's 18 points and eight rebounds, and Michael Landquist's 12 points and six assists led the Tigers, who defeated Laporte 91-29 in the season opener on Dec. 1.

Caden Kramer also hit double figures with 11 points while Michael Landquist had four rebounds and joined Jack Landquist and Wormley with two steals. Zach Henry and Luke DeWulf had four assists each for Nevis.

"We were able to jump out to an early lead and never look back," said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer. "We dominated the paint with our size and were also able to get a lot of action for the bench."

Tigers edge PR-B

Wormley and Jack Landquist scored 13 points apiece in leading the Tigers past PR-B for the second time this season.

Jack Landquist also had nine rebounds and four steals while Wormley and Kramer hauled down four rebounds apiece. Michael Landquist also hit double figures with 10 points while dishing out five assists. Kramer chipped in two steals as the Tigers rallied from a 24-23 halftime deficit.

Nick Ackerman's 16 points led PR-B, which fell to 5-6 in the conference and 8-10 overall.

"In a game where points were scarce, we were able to forge a lead late and make some free throws to seal the win," said Kramer, whose team defeated PR-B 64-33 on Jan. 5. "Pine River packed the lane against us and we were unable to make perimeter shots to bring them out of it. We shot 3 for 23 from behind the arc and that enabled Pine River to continue to pack it in. Our defense and three-throw shooting pulled us through as we hit 13 of 14 from the line and were able to escape with the win."

Wolves top Tigers

W-H-A avenged a 58-54 loss to the Tigers at Walker on Jan. 9 with a win at the Tiger Arena Friday night.

Michael Landquist had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four steals and two assists while Jack Landquist had 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Kramer also hit double figures with 11 points while hauling down six rebounds and tallying two steals. Henry had four assists and DeWulf had two assists for the Tigers, who trailed 30-28 at the half.

"We were unable to survive a determined Walker team. We came out flat and I think the schedule and our health caught up to us as we really didn't play the kind of basketball that we are capable of, especially at home," said Kramer. "You have to give Walker credit. They made the plays down the stretch. I thought the turning point was early in the second half when we had a number of careless turnovers on the perimeter that really gave them the momentum and the lead."

The win gave the Wolves a 4-4 record in the conference and an 11-6 overall mark. Cass Lake-Bena tops the conference standings at 11-0 while Blackduck (6-5), PR-B and Red Lake (5-5) trail the Tigers. Northome-Kelliher is 1-9.

Tigers win at Target Center

Another balanced scoring attack led the Tigers past Houston at the Target Center.

Kramer led the way with 18 points while Michael Landquist had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists and two steals. DeWulf also hit double figures with 10 points while adding three assists. Jack Landquist had four rebounds and Henry had two assists for the Tigers, who jumped out to a 38-28 halftime lead.

"We got back in the win column with a great team effort against Houston," said Kramer. "We got off to an early lead and were able to pull away in the second half. We had balanced scoring and all of the guys got in the game. I thought we moved the ball well against their zone and we were able to make some adjustments to do a better job of rebounding."
