A DISTRAUGHT dog owner has vowed to ‘never give up searching’ for her beloved Toy Poodle who went missing at Oxford’s Port Meadow while suffering from a serious heart condition.
Carolyn Lin has warned that time is running out for the missing canine - named Meatball - and is now offering a £1,000 reward after gathering dozens of fellow dog lovers on Saturday to form a search party.
After putting out a call for aid to 3,000 people via Pets Reunited the 40-year old chiropractor student from North Oxford joined more than 20 volunteers at Burgess Field to scour the 35 hectares for the animal who went missing on Tuesday.
Miss Lin said that the search was particularly urgent because the 8kg black dog needs constant medication for a heart condition and without it he would need surgery.
She told the Oxford Mail: “I feel very bad, I have not slept for the past few days, and I have left the lights on in the garden and never close the gate anymore.
“I will keep searching and I will never give up and hopefully one day I will find him.”
The search party, led by Nick Carpenter of Pets Reunited, is using a unique method to coax the dog, whom they believe may have slipped into a rabbit hole.
The volunteers are each using their mobile phones to blast the sounds of Miss Lin's doorbell down the holes, as Meatball often responds to the distinct noise.
So far, however, the group are yet to strike it lucky and Meatball remains missing.
Miss Liu, who is originally from Taiwan, added: “He is a very nervous dog most of the time and he is very quiet but the doorbell ringing makes him bark.
“There is also a £1,000 reward for anybody who finds him.”
Nick Carpenter who founded Pets Reunited in a bid to help locate missing animals said that the area they were searching, roughly the size of 50 football pitches, would make it challenging.
He said: “It's just such a vast area. It’s like looking for a needle in a hay stack.
“Which is why Carolyn contacted me to see if we could organise a search party, and I am pleased that people have turned out to help find him.
“He has been without food and other care for days and needs heart medication so the time window is running out for him.
“We really want to find Meatball and bring him home.”
Miss Lin said that Meatball’s grey harness had since been recovered from the field and that she was now expanding the search and contacting local animal shelters.
