PATNA: Even though
winter conditions are still to formally depart; weather in Bihar has changed from cold to fairly warm in mere past three to four days. The maximum temperature at Patna is being recorded three to four degrees C above normal from past couple of days and the minimum temperature is also being recorded above 10 degrees C.
Winter is said to have departed from Bihar when the minimum temperature remains above 13 degree C for over four consecutive days at this time of the year. Such a situation is gradually approaching as even night readings at Patna and several other places are still hovering around 10 degrees C but it was recorded at 13.4 degrees C at Bhagalpur on Monday.
Maximum temperature in Patna on the other hand, stood at 27.8 degrees C, which was three notches above the respective normal. Weathermen at Patna meteorological centre claimed that both minimum and maximum readings would continue to rise at least over the three days. The surge in temperature conditions have been attributed to gradual departure of foggy conditions in the region.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) is however, expecting change in weather conditions in the region for a few days around February 9 owing to approaching western disturbances (WDs). WDs are low-pressure areas or extra-tropical storms originating from Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea and Caspian Sea, which cause winter snow or rainfalls in northwest Indian subcontinent.
An all- India weather bulletin issued by IMD on Monday evening stated a series of WDs is likely to move across the northernmost parts of India over the next five days. The weather bulletin has further stated that cloud cover is likely to continue over parts of north- west India during next two days and over eastern India during the subsequent period.
The national weather forecasting agency also issued warning for thunderstorm accompanied with hailstorm likely at isolated places over Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on February 9.
Weathermen at Patna claimed that only northern parts of the state are likely to be affected by the upcoming WD. They claimed that temperature at a few places in the state, particularly in north Bihar, may witness a dip of one or two notches on February 9 but it would come back to normal within a couple of days.
February has been in fact, a pleasant month for Patna and most places in Bihar so far. Dense fog cover has subsided from majority parts of the state until now. Weathermen claimed that though hazy skies or shallow fog might be witnessed for a few days but there are minimal chances of comeback of dense foggy conditions. Visibility has also remained good and above 1000 meters as early as 9 in the morning, which has led to smooth flight operations from the city airport.
