FRAMINGHAM – When she responded to a 911 medical call to an Irving Street apartment on Sunday, Officer Elizabeth Morton was greeted by a woman in labor on the floor ready to give birth.

Three minutes later, at 5:55 p.m., the rookie cop helped deliver baby Christopher, police spokeswoman Patricia Grigas said on Monday.

“Dad called 911 and when she and Officer (Nick) Caruso arrived mom was on the floor, and the baby is ready to come into the world,” said Grigas. “He (the baby) started crying right away.”

Paramedics arrived moments after the birth, and took the mother and baby to the hospital.

This is not the first time a Framingham officer has delivered a baby, but Grigas said it was the first time in several years. She said it’s not always a positive when officers have to do it, but in this case it appears both the mother and baby are healthy.

Officers receive first-responder training as well as other training, but typically aren’t trained to deliver babies.

“She (Morrison) was beside herself, she was so excited,” said Grigas. “She’s still a new officer. She hasn’t been a here a year. She’s just beaming. She already went to buy the baby presents and was going to bring them to the hospital.”
