Wayne Rooney reveals Man Utd top four doubt and makes huge Chelsea claim

WAYNE ROONEY believes Chelsea are a certainty to finish in the top four this season but he is less convinced about former side Manchester United.

Rooney is working as a pundit for Sky Sports ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Watford in the Premier League tonight (8pm).

England’s all-time leading goalscorer left Manchester United last summer to rejoin boyhood club Everton.

After scoring a record 253 goals in 559 games in a Red Devils shirt, many would think Rooney would be heavily biased towards Jose Mourinho’s side.

However, despite United sitting five points clear of Chelsea in second place ahead of the trip to Watford, he was less certain of them finishing in the top four than the Blues.

I think Chelsea are a great team. I think they will make the top four definitely

“I think Chelsea are a great team,” Wayne Rooney said.

“I think they will make the top four definitely.

“I think obviously there seems to be a few issues with (Antonio) Conte but I’m sure they’ll get sorted out and they’ve got enough quality there to finish in the top four.”

Presenter Dave Jones then pressed Rooney, saying: “You’ve got to say Man United as well presumably.”

Rooney hesitated, taking more than a two-second break before replying: “You’d think so.

“It’s tight, Tottenham have come into it, Liverpool.

“So it is going to be tight, two of those big six teams are going to miss out.

“I just think Chelsea, Man City, I fancy Liverpool and Man United.”
