At least one fatality has been reported in a multiple-vehicle crash which closed I-35 for part of the day Monday.

About 50 cars piled up on I-35 southbound around 12:30 p.m., sending a handful of people to the hospital, according to Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Nathan Ludwig.

Traffic was blocked between Exit 113: 13th Street and Exit 111: US 30, according to the 511 Traveler Information’s Facebook page.

Northbound traffic was also blocked for part of Monday to allow emergency vehicles to access the scene, but video footage appeared to show traffic flowing again around 5 p.m. Monday.
