ZEELAND – The Portland Raider girls bowling team went on a road trip, Saturday, Feb. 3, and came home with some hardware to add to the school's trophy case. The Raiders placed second out of 10 teams, facing off against Sturgis in the championship round.
The Raiders mowed down the competition to get to the championship round and gave their coaches and their fans some excitement. Portland fell to Sturgis in the first round, but then claimed the second game. The winner of the tournament was decided by total number of pins and Sturgis was able to claim the title by a mere five pins.
In the CAAC league, the Raiders sit with a 6-1 record with just three games remaining in the regular season. The Portland boys bowling team is doing well, also, with an 8-1 record, with three games remaining.
“I predict both the boys and girls will win the conference title,” said Portland coach William Armour.
Portland will be hosting Grand Ledge, Friday, Feb. 9, and then will participate in the CAAC tournament, Sunday, Feb. 11.
