Indian Cricketer Unmukt Chand who led the Under-19 cricket team to the U-19 Cricket World Cup Victory in 2012 has done an Anil Kumble in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The stylish opener slammed 116 runs off 125 balls with a broken jaw and came to the crease to bat for his team even though he was injured. The sight of legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble bowling against West Indies with a bandaged jaw is one of the most inspiring and remarkable moments of cricketing history. Today, Unmukt Chand displayed the same courage and resilience as he scored a century with a broken jaw. Unmukt Chand’s dedication was hailed by Twitterati who broke into a standing ovation for the youngster’s zeal and passion as he scored a century today and was reminded of Anil Kumble.
Unmukt Chand scored a brilliant ton for his team in a match against Uttar Pradesh which helped Delhi achieve a target of 307/6 against Uttar Pradesh. The opener smashed 12 fours and three sixes in his innings of 116 runs and got a ton despite playing with a broken jaw. The former U 19 World Cup winning captain got injured during net practice just before the start of the match. However, his injury did not deter him and he ensured that he played and helped his team put up a healthy total. Sample a few tweets from the Twitter users below. Unmukt Chand’s courage and heroism reminded everybody of Anil Kumble when he bowled with a heavily bandaged face in the Antigua Test against West Indies in 2002. Even former South African skipper Graeme Smith had come out to bat with a broken arm against Australia to save the Test. With the help pf Unmukt Chand’s century Delhi easily defeated Uttar Pradesh who were bowled out for 252 in 45.3 overs.
