Mumbai: Farhan Azmi resigns from Samajwadi Party

Mumbai: All doesn’t seem to be right with Samajwadi Party, with party president Akhilesh Yadav being in Mumbai to hold a rally not knowing that his Yuva cell’s city president is missing. The Samajwadi Party’s Yuva president for Mumbai, Farhan Azmi, the son of legislator, and Maharashtra party president, Abu Asim Azmi, resigned from the party on January 29.
In his letter, Farhan, who is a well-known restaurateur, said, “due to some personal reasons I am unable to give time to the party.” However, sources in Samajwadi Yuva Cell say, Farhan has taken it upon himself to save his father. Abu Azmi is still party state and city president, literally the face of the party in the state.
The real reason some Samajwadi Yuva cell members say for Farhan’s move is that the central leadership, especially Akhilesh, had been ignoring Farhan. “Farhan has been active, dedicated and instead of giving him any work, the bosses have kept him in the background. The party bosses asked him to send photos of the rally stage, but have refused to use his leadership,” said a miffed youth leader.
Farhan, however, refused to get dragged into controversy. “I want to focus on my restaurant business,” said Farhan, who didn’t wish to comment further on the issue.
