NO CBI INQUIRY INTO PRAVISH CHANAM’S DEATH CASE TILL NOW!
NEFIS, PAC & YFPHR BURN EFFIGIES OF UP CM, UNION HOME MINISTER AND MANIPUR GOVERNOR!
DEMAND JUSTICE FOR PRAVISH!

Today, the activists of People’s Action Committee (PAC), North East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) and Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) burnt the effigies of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath; Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh and Governor of Manipur, Najma Heptulla at Uripok Achom Leikai, Imphal West District to mark their protest against inaction by Union and State governments in the matter of Manipuri youth, Pravish Chanam’s death under suspicious circumstances last year in Noida.

It should be known that the organizations had earlier given an ultimatum to the Government of Manipur and Union Government, demanding a prompt CBI inquiry into the case of Pravish Chanam’s death, following the end of which they had warned of mass movements.

It should be noted that on 17th January, 2018 it was announced by the organizations that a series of mass movements shall be launched if governments failed to hand over the case of Pravish Chanam’s death to CBI. Since the case had been earlier investigated into by the UP Police, whose personnel were themselves suspects, the victim’s family had argued for a CBI inquiry into the case. The inaction by the governments in handing over the case to CBI, is a blatant example of discrimination towards the North-East people being practiced in the country. At the protest, the participants shouted slogans demanding CBI Inquiry into Prabish Chanam’s death as well as justice for the deceased.

The burning of the effigies is only the first step to kick off mass movements in Manipur. The organizations have warned the Union Government and Government of Manipur of intensifying their movements if no prompt CBI inquiry is initiated into the case.
