NK Nayak new State Election Commissioner
Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the urban local bodies (ULBs) elections towards the end of this year, former bureaucrat Naba Kumar Nayak has been appointed as the State Election Commissioner replacing Rabi Narayan Senapati, whose term has come to an end. Earlier, Nayak had served as Member and Chairman in-Charge of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The retired IAS officer had also worked as the Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Collector of Puri and Mayurbhanj districts and Deputy Relief Commissioner.
Chit fund commission term extended
Bhubaneswar: The State Government has extended the tenure of the Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry by six months with effect from February 5. The Home Department issued a notification in this regard on Saturday. The commission is set up to probe unauthorised fund collections by chit fund companies. The commission has already recommended refund of money to small depositors soon in its third interim report to the Government. It will examine another 1,37,388 affidavits before submitting its fourth report. As many as 342 companies have been served notices in this regard. The commission has identified 41,519 small depositors in its third report. It has so far gone through 60,941 affidavits filed by small depositors.
U Sammilani observes Madhubabu death anniv
Bhubaneswar: The Utkal Sammilani observed the 84th death anniversary of Utkalgaurav Madhusudan Das and paid floral tributes at his statue here on Sunday. Sammilani Mancheswar branch president Dillip Dashsharma presided over the meeting. Sammilani senior member Dr Dwarikanath Mohanty, Bhubaneswar branch president Bibhuti Mishra, Mancheswar branch VP Sital Chandra Mohanty, joint secretary Ashok Paltasingh, Basanti Tripathy, Shiv Sankar Mishra, Akshaya Kumar Jethi, Siddhartha Sankar Gadnayak, Ajay Kanungo, Diptimayee Nayak, Subrat Kumar Mahapatra, Gopi Mohan Patnaik, Rabindra Pradhan and Akuli Sangram Jethi also paid tributes to Madhubau.
