That’s according to former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp.

The Algerian handed in a transfer request last month in order to force through a move to runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola was desperate for reinforcements up front in order to cover for injuries to Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus.

But the Foxes rebuffed all advances for their talisman, stating that they wanted at least £90m for the 26-year-old.

City refused to go higher than £60m, meaning Mahrez will remain at the King Power Stadium until at least the end of the season.

“If Mahrez continues to declare himself unavailable, he risks ruining his reputation and legacy at Leicester. ”

The winger has not been seen by Leicester since the move collapsed on transfer deadline day and Redknapp has urged him not to ruin his reputation at the club.

“I get why Riyad Mahrez is feeling aggrieved,” he told the Daily Mail.

“Moving to Manchester City was the opportunity of a lifetime but Leicester priced him out of the market.

“Mahrez will have seen Danny Drinkwater and N'Golo Kante leave and wonder why he is not being given the same opportunity. But I do not condone a player going on strike.

“As hard as it will be, he needs to be a team player, train hard and give everything to the cause.

“If he keeps performing, the big clubs will come calling again this summer.”

City drew with Burnley on Saturday but remain top of the Premier League, 13 points clear of fierce rivals Manchester United.

Guardiola’s side host Leicester on Saturday evening and Claude Puel will be hoping that Mahrez is available for selection.
