In its effort to maintain communal harmony in the Raghubir Nagar area after the cold blooded murder of 23-year-old Ankit Saxena near his residence on Thursday evening, the Delhi Police has shifted the relatives of the 20-year-old girl to an undisclosed location. Sources said that the move has been taken after the relatives expressed fear since the beauty parlour of the accused person’s wife was forcefully shut down on Saturday by the activists of a right wing group.
Recalling the relations between the families of Ankit and the 20-year-old girl, a local said, “Ankit and that 20-year-old girl grew up together. Their families had such good relations that they celebrated every festival together until the time the girl’s family came to know about their relationship. They lived as neighbours till two years back. It was only when their families opposed that girl’s family shifted to another lane in Raghubir Nagar,” recalled locals at the A block of the Raghubir Nagar area on Sunday.
A senior police officer, privy to the investigation shared, “As per the eyewitness accounts, the girl’s father stood while the girl’s mother, brother and maternal uncle kept beating Ankit. Ankit’s father had informed us that he had got a call from someone that Ankit was being beaten. When Ankit's father reached, he pleaded with the girl’s father to stop the others from beating Ankit but the pleas fell on deaf ears.”
In the meantime, while the girl’s uncle thrashed Ankit and the girl’s mother pinned him down, the scuffle heated up so much that the girl's father came forward, picked up a butcher's knife and slit Ankit's throat, he added.
Police said they are questioning the six eyewitnesses to establish what exactly happened on the evening of the day Ankit Saxena was murdered.
Father of Ankit, Yashpal said, “I kept begging the girl’s father to not beat Ankit. My pleas fell on deaf ears.”
Till Sunday evening, taking cognizance of the communally sensitive environment in the Raghubir Nagar area, heavy police presence engulfed each and every lane and bylane of the area in Khyala. With several units of Delhi Police, CRPF, ITBP and BSF deployed in the Raghubir Nagar area, police said that they will keep a vigil in the area till the situation comes back to normalcy.
Police said that apart from the local police force, they have also called in anti-riot unit and women commandos.
A day after BJP leader Manoj Tiwari paid a visit to Ankit's parents at their house, politicians from the Opposition parties started making a beeline to the house of the 23-year-old professional photographer on Sunday as well.
