Art contest
Jadon Gore of Lakeland was one of 13 people selected as a winner in the nationwide art contest hosted by Genoa. The contest has 400 entries from across the country from Genoa's pharmacy consumers. Each winner's artwork is featured in a 2018 calendar that will be distributed to nearly 400 pharmacy locations.

The Friends of the Bartow Public Library provided a sponsorships to the United Way of Central Florida Success By 6 to provide books for children through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library project. 38th anniversary
A 38-year anniversary celebration was held at Elonka Fashions in Winter Haven on Jan. 20. The celebration included a trunk show by Joseph Ribkoff apparel, there was a buffet with wine and punch, and prizes were given out.
You Are Your Brother's Keeper
Lake Wales Charter Schools awarded the You Are Your Brother's Keeper award to Jerry Miller, Duke Energy's government and community relations manager, for Duke Engergy's Lineman to Lineman program. Through the program, Duke Energy donated $1,000 to local high schools and presented the checks, along with a commemorative branded football, during a football game or pep rally to one of the school's linemen on the football team. Schools honored were Lake Wales High School, Haines City High School, Frostproof Middle Senior High School and Ridge Community High School.
Knights of Columbus Council 4726
The Knights of Columbus Dr. L.J. O'Rourke Council 4726 of Winter Haven announce Jim Riley as Knight of the Month and Tom and Helen Forster as Family of the Month for January. The council welcomed Joseph Berdis, Jason Sirera and Jordon Sirera as new knights. On Jan. 20, Everett Evans, Rod Mullens, Tom Berdis, Mike Lopez, David Lugo, Tom Shaver and Bob Barczynski placed Crosses for the Innocents at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winter Haven.
