AAUW scholarship

Scholarship applications are available for the 2018-19 school year from the Cowlitz County branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Cowlitz County woman who has completed two years of college and who will be a full-time junior or senior student at an accredited college in fall 2018.

The selection will be based on scholarship, leadership and community involvement/life experience. Applications must be postmarked by Saturday, March 17.

LCSRA scholarships

Applications for three $1,000 scholarship are available from the Lower Columbia School Retirees Association to graduating seniors in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties who are interested in a career in the education field (classroom teacher, guidance counselor, speech therapist, librarian) or who are seeking vocational training.

Students must hold a 3.2 or higher grade-point average.

Application forms and details are available at lcsra.net and must be postmarked by Friday, March 2.

In addition, the Washington State School Retirees Association is offering several scholarships graduating seniors can access by visiting lcsra.net, then clicking on WSSRA on the left side of the page, then going to Forms and Files (toward the top right-hand corner of the page) and then Scholarship Application.

Beta Sigma Phi scholarship

A scholarship for students going into the health field is available from the Beta Sigma Phi City Council of Longview-Kelso.

The scholarship is given in honor of deceased Beta Sigma Phi members and awards are based on the funds available. A student may receive the award a maximum of two years.

To apply, students must be residents of Cowlitz or Wahkiakum counties. Non-residents can apply if they attend school in those counties.

The application must include a completed questionnaire, copies of official transcripts, two letters of recommendation and an essay from the applicant explaining why he or she is interested in the health field.

Application forms are available at area high schools, at Lower Columbia College or by calling scholarship chairwoman Diane LaRue at 360-431-8909. Leave a message with an email address and LaRue will send an application.

The application deadline is March 23.

Altrusa scholarships

Altrusa International of Longview-Kelso has three scholarships available to college students.

The Altrusa International Scholarship for Technical Education Students is available to students attending Lower Columbia College during the 2018-19 school year. The $1,000 scholarship is for a student in a two-year technical program in the trades, manufacturing or industrial fields.

The $1,400 Altrusa International Scholarship is for a student attending LCC during the 2018-19 school year and is renewable for up to three additional consecutive years provided the student shows proof of satisfactory academic progress.

The $1,000 Jane Kalahan Smith Scholarship is for a student who has an interest in the sciences, who has completed studies at LCC and who will attend a college or university for the 2018-19 school year.

Application forms are available from high school counselors, in the LCC admission center/financial aid lobby or on the Altrusa International of Longview-Kelso website at http://bit.ly/2ysiNLo.

Complete criteria is included on the applications which must be sent to Altrusa International of Longview-Kelso and postmarked by Friday, March 23.

Recipients will be notified by mail.

Lundquist scholarships

Applications are being accepted by the Kalama School District 403 for the Walter E. Lundquist Scholarships for the 2018-2019 school year.

All applicants must be graduates of Kalama High School within the last five years (2014 through 2018) and be residents of Washington.

Forms are available at the superintendent’s office, 548 China Garden Road, Kalama; or mailed upon request by calling the superintendent’s office at 360-673-5282.

Applications must be returned to the superintendent’s office before April 1.
