BURBANK, S.D. | Two people were airlifted to a Minnesota hospital for treatment of their injuries after a Sunday evening fire in Burbank, authorities say. 

Two others who were home at the time of the fire were treated and released from Sanford Vermillion Medical Center, according to a news release from Vermillion Fire EMS.  

The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday at a two-story home at 46890 N. Railroad St. The release said authorities arrived on scene to find heavy fire conditions coming from the structure's front. Four occupants were in the residence at the time of the fire and were evacuated. 

One occupant transported via ambulance to Sanford Vermillion Medical Center, while the other three occupants traveled by personal vehicle. Two of the occupants were then airlifted to a Minnesota hospital, while the other two were released. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Vermillion's fire investigators and the South Dakota State Fire Marshal's Office. 

Assisting at the scene were Elk Point Fire and Ambulance, the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Clay-Union Electric Corp. and Clay Rural Water.
