MARDAN: Pakistani police say three gunmen have shot and killed female singer and model, who refused to accompany them to a private party.

District Police chief Saeed Khan says the incident happened in the northwestern city of Mardan city on Saturday evening.

He says the artist, known only as Sumbul, was shot multiple times and killed at her home after the gunmen broke in and asked her to perform for them at a private party.

Khan says the perpetrators fled the scene of the killing and that the police are searching for them.

According to a media report, one Mir Bahadur told the police that Naeem Khattak, resident of Charsadda, Jehangir Khan, and Naseeb Shah, both residents of Peshawar, killed his granddaughter Sumbul at their house.

He said the accused wanted Sumbul to accompany them to a music show but she refused to oblige, which infuriated them. He alleged the accused opened fire on Sumbul and killed her on the spot.

The accused escaped after committing the crime.
