To the Editor:
Non-resident college students do not have a right to vote in New Hampshire. Yes, they have a right to vote, but in their own state. Absentee ballots are still a vote. But the crux of the matter is, should people that are not New Hampshire residents get to decide on rather large matters, that they will be unaffected by?
Any college student can easily become a New Hampshire resident. But if they are not a resident, that makes them by definition a transient.
Should New Yorkers and Massachusetts residents be able to vote in New Hampshire, even though they are not residents, and have no intention to live here?
Votes have real consequences, oftentimes long-term consequences. Why should someone that is just visiting New Hampshire be able to vote for things that will not affect them?
