Eagles' Super Bowl parade to take place Thursday, city says

The Philadelphia Eagles will celebrate their first Super Bowl win with a parade on Thursday, officials said.

On Monday morning, Mayor Jim Kenney told SportsRadio WIP during an interview that the parade would be "most likely Thursday." Hours later, the city tweeted out some details.

The parade is tentatively set to begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Broad and Pattison and will head north to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Additional details will be released at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, the city said.

In a statement after the victory, the mayor said the Eagles have brought "tremendous joy" to the city.

"You are champions, and your accomplishments will forever be part of the rich history of Philadelphia sports," the mayor said.

"To the fans: I have long felt that our city's professional and collegiate sports teams bring Philadelphians together, regardless of race, income, neighborhood or gender, and that was never more true than during the Eagles' brilliant season. We know you have waited years, some for decades, for the chance to crown your Birds as champs.  I urge everyone to celebrate in a way that is safe and respectful to everyone from neighbors to strangers.  Go forth and celebrate, but do so in a way that will make Philadelphia shine."

On social media, videos and photos showed revelers overturning a car, people jumping off a hotel awning, fires being set and a convenience store being looted.

In the WIP interview, the mayor said he heard there were three arrests during Sunday night's celebration but noted that number had not been confirmed.
