Noida: 25-year-old gym trainer shot by sub-inspector, family alleges fake encounter

On Saturday, 25-year-old gym trainer Jitendra Kumar Yadav was shot by sub-inspector, near Noida Sector 122. The victim, along with three friends, was returning home from a wedding in Ghaziabad when the incident took place.

Jitendra Kumar Yadav’s family alleges that he was shot in a “fake” encounter by police. The family members had also accused the policemen involved in the incident of targeting the duo because of their caste.

But while addressing a press conference, Love Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Noida said, “Prima facie it looks like a case of personal enmity. During the probe, it was found that the trainee sub-inspector knew the elder brother of the man who was shot. This is certainly not a case of an encounter. Prima facie it seems a case of personal enmity. We are verifying everything.”

The alleged ‘fake encounter’

The incident took place on Saturday 10 pm, Jitendra Kumar Yadav along with his three friends was going back home when their car was allegedly stopped by sub-inspector Vijay Darshan, another sub-inspector and two constables near Noida Sector 122.

An eyewitness and Yadav’s friend has said that the police stopped the car and told them they would be taken to police chowki.

“We aren’t criminals, why should we have gone to the police chowki? As soon as we sat in the car, he took out the gun and shot. We thought that the bullet has been fired in the air but we saw blood and panicked. The police did not even take him to the hospital. We begged them to take us to the hospital, told them that if we reach on time, he might be saved. But he said not now and asked us not to pick and phone calls.

“My phone had fallen in the car, I was trying to pick it up but he kept hitting me. When we reached the chowki, he parked the car. I broke the windscreen of the car and started creating a hue and cry because he was not taking us to the hospital. I did so in the hope that someone helps us. He called someone and said that, Sir, an encounter has taken place here, cross firing has happened,” a friend of Yadav, who is also an eye-witness in the case told Indian Express.

The eyewitness further added that sub-inspector Vijay Darshan took them to Fortis Hospital but he was driving the vehicle very slowly, and Darshan was talking on the phone throughout the journey.

Jitendra Yadav, who was shot in the neck, is said to be critical, while Sunil has wounded his leg. Yadav is currently admitted at Fortis, where heavy security is deployed at present.

Shooter sub-inspector sent to jail

While addressing reporters in Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar SSP Love Kumar said that the four policemen involved in the shootout have been suspended and the sub-inspector who fired the gunshots has been sent to jail.

“The four policemen have been suspended with immediate effect. We have seized service revolver of the sub-inspector who fired the gunshots and sent him to jail. Besides sending the accused trainee sub-inspector to jail, the role of other three policemen, two constables and a sub-inspector is being investigated. All four of them remain suspended,” he said.

Gautam Buddha Nagar SSP Love Kumara also has said that Darshan was in plain clothes during the incident, and he knew Yadav’s elder brother very closely, and police in their investigation was looking at personal enmity in the case.
