Brady is out to lead the New England Patriots to a SIXTH Super Bowl win against Philadelphia Eagles in Minnesota.
But fans unfamiliar with the game may be left wondering ‘what has he got on his face?’.
Why does Tom Brady were face paint?
Brady wears 'eye black' on his face in all his games.
His distinctive look consists of two black strips high on his cheeks, just below his eyes.
Some studies claim the black marks reduce glare inside the stadium.

But it's more uncommon in European sports.

Does eye black work?
While some studies claim 'eye black' does help vision and thus performance, it's not the only reason athletes wear it.
It also forms part of the valuable pre-match routine for Brady and others.
The paint symbolises a pyschological shift for the player to game-time and helps focus the mind.
