Barbed-wire fences to be installed on Myanmar border

Home minister tells JS

The government has undertaken a plan to construct barbed-wire fences, including a 271km ring road from Shahpari island, along Myanmar border in phases to prevent illegal intrusion, crimes, drug smuggling and border related criminal activities.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said this yesterday while responding to a starred question from treasury bench member M Yeasin Ali of Thakurgaon.

The government has taken the plan to keep the law and order under control, he said.

While replying to another starred question from treasury bench member Abul Kalam Azad of Jamalpur-1, the minister said the government has formed 25,605 anti-drug committees in educational institutions across the country.

“The Department of Narcotics Control, Police, BGB and Rab along with other law enforcement agencies have been working to control drug related crimes following the prime minister's instruction.”

In 2016-17 financial year, the DNC formed 3,675 anti-drug committees in educational institutions and held 6,313 anti-drug discussions, rallies and human chains, he added.
