4-H is full of possibilities and opportunities, not just for youth but for adults.
Opportunity to excel.
4-H youth have the ability to grow their skills year after year and continue to master a skill. They can bake a simple bread one year and amazing cake the next. They can raise a rabbit one year, move on to a goat and show a cow in their final year. You can see the pattern. This is one of the best aspects about 4-H.
This year one of our own, LeighAnn Fisher, won the Open Trail Ponies (14.2 hands and under) class at the PA 4-H State Horse Show. LeighAnn is a 10-year 4-H member and a member of the Country Kickers 4-H Club. Congratulations on a job well done. You represented Beaver County very well!
Opportunity to serve.
As mentioned above 4-H is also for adults, as adults can volunteer. Do you love kids? Are you passionate about a certain topic like baking, sewing, animal husbandry, woodworking or even photography? Do you love horses, goats, rabbits or any other animals? This may be just what you are looking for. You do not have to have a child or grandchild in the program to volunteer. You do not need to be an expert to volunteer. Seeing a child grow year after year is a very rewarding experience.
In order to be a 4-H volunteer, there is a simple screening process that needs to be completed. If you are interested in volunteering, please call Jen McKinley at the Beaver County Extension Office at 724-774-3003 ext. 5 or email her at jem67@psu.edu.
