Continuing drive against peddling of narcotics, Dehradun police arrested four persons allegedly involved in supplying drugs among youths.Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti formed teams at police stations level directed them to conduct vehicle checking drives to put check on illegal smuggling of drugs in the district.
Nehru Colony police arrested a person named Riyaz, a resident of Kedarpuram, from Nehru Colony area and recovered 6.5 gram smack from his possession. The accused is learnt to have admitted his offense.
Doiwala police arrested a person named Salim, resident of Chandmari from Doiwala and recovered six gram smack from his possession. In course of investigation it has been revealed that earlier he was arrested on the charge of supplying drugs among the youths. Police are investigating his involvement in other cases in the past.
Vikasnagar police arrested a person named Rajendra Prasad Joshi, resident of Vikasnagar and recovered 105 gram hahish from his possession. Sahaspur police arrested a person named Irfan, a resident of Timli and recovered 258 gram hashish from his possession. He used to bring hashish from Mirzapur to supply it among the youths in Sahaspur area informed the police in course of interrogation. A case under sections 8/20 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the police stations concerned, said police officer.
It is pertinent to mention here that with the mushrooming of education institutions in and around the city during recent years, there has also been a rise in number of people involved in selling prohibited substances to the youth. It must be written here that many complaints have been received from time to time regarding the illegal sale of contraband narcotics from many parts of the district and youths coming in its grip is also not a secret.
