The City of Brotherly Love was ready and in the early moments after the Philadelphia Eagles’ stunning Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, fans took to the streets to celebrate responsibly.

City workers made sure Sunday there would be no climbing of light poles. Just as they did two weeks ago before the NFC championship game, they applied a lubricant to said poles, the better to protect revelers (or angry fans) from their least-inhibited impulses. Two weeks ago, the city found that Crisco was rather ineffective, so it has switched to hydraulic fluid that should stand up with rain falling in the city.

Bio-Bottle Jack Hydraulic Fluid appears to be the lubricant of choice and RenewableLube.com describes it as being “a biobased, biodegradable and environmentally nontoxic hydraulic oil for use in general purpose hydraulic systems.”

Still, it wasn’t enough to stop everyone.

Immediately, though, fans were just clogging Broad Street.

Naturally, some things were ignited.
