Six-year-old's death: FIR lodged under POCSO Act

Three days after death of a six-year-old girl, suspected to have been sexually assaulted, in Outer Delhi’s Ranhola area, the Delhi Police has registered an FIR under Sections of the POCSO Act following a written complaint from the girl’s father.

A senior police officer privy to the investigation said, “We have detained the minor girl’s maternal uncle. As per the complaint given by the minor girl’s father, she was picked up from RP World School on Monday by the paternal uncle. After returning home, the girl had allegedly complained of severe pain on her left leg, following which the girl’s parents rushed her to a nearby hospital.”

The incident came to light on Friday morning when the Ganga Ram Hospital, where the six year old girl was admitted, released the MLC report stating that the minor girl had suffered tear in her anal and vaginal region.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) MN Tiwari had on Friday told the media that the child died of severe infection, ruling out any sexual assault. Police said the autopsy had not revealed bodily injuries on the girl.

While Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital in west Delhi, where the autopsy was performed, refused to give any details, the Delhi Police quoted the medical team to say that the girl’s body exhibited no injuries.
