The city of lakes has rich history. The State of erstwhile Bhopal was ruled by fierce, brave and intelligent rulers and they were all ‘women’. The story of the glorious past of Bhopal was retold through a film screening event held on Sunday.

The documentary ‘Begamon Ka Bhopal’ was screened on Sunday at Dylogg Co-working. Director of the short film Rachita Gorowala was also present on the occasion to interact with the audience.

Begamon Ka Bhopal is an ode to the times that once existed in Bhopal, through an everyday nostalgia that is lived by a writer, a film keeper and royal descendants. Each in their own way hold onto time and thus become it. Through a lyrical, musical and an introspective journey the film tries to create an emotion, Huzun, a word in persian that means, a nostalgia that is hard to describe.

Rachita Gorowala, a 30-year-old is an alumna of Xavier Institute of Communications, Mumbai, and FTII, Pune. Her first short film was based on Bhopal Gas Tragedy and next was Begamon Ka Bhopal.

The film features two royal decendents and a royal attendant who shared their experiences and stories of Begums of Bhopal. After the movie screening “A fascination with Pathan woman rulers who ruled Bhopal for over 100 years started me on Begamon ka Bhopal,” said Rachita Gorowal.
