Theatre artiste Oinam Biramangol felicitated

Imphal, February 04 2018: Noted theatre artiste Oinam Biramangol Singh who was conferred Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2016 recently by President Ram Nath Kovind was today felicitated by Rupmahal Theatre at its auditorium.

The felicitation function was held in conjunction with the closing and award presentation ceremony of the 18th Rupmahal Artists Memorial Drama Festival - 2017.The function was graced by L Upendro Sharma, Director JNMDA and K Heramani Singh, Chairman, Rupmahal Theatre as the chief guest and president respectively.

Giving key note at the occasion, legal advisor and former artist of Rupmahal Theatre, S Lakhikanta observed that Oinam Biramangol Singh should have conferred with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award many years back as he was deemed fit to receive the prestigious award.

He described Biramangol as an iconic figure in the field of theatre having extra ordinary talents and influential opinions.

Conveying that Rupmahal Artistes Memorial Drama Festival is held every year with the objective of grooming theatre artists and in honour of the departed artists of Rupmahal Theatre, Lakhikanta said that awards have also been presented to theatre artists in the State without any help from the Government.

He also lauded those individuals who contributed and donated awards.

Many families and dear ones of late artists donated awards every year in recognition of the efforts of Rupmahal Theatre in promoting theatre art form.

The best play for 18th Rupmahal Artistes Memorial Drama Festival was given to "Chakpa Salai" of People's Arts & Dramatic Association while Sarangthem Henari arid P Sarda Devi of Aronba Meiri bagged the best actor and actress in the festival.
